He died on 17 February 1968 at Sutherland, O'Brien County, Iowa and is buried at Waterman Cemetery in Sutherland. He married Lorene Mae "Rene" Kopp on 7 March 1942. Roger and Lorene had six children: Robert Oscar, Jerry Roger, Dennis Allen, Jack Rodney, Michael Alan and David LeRoy. Sutherland Courier 22 Feb 1968 Roger Youde, World War II Veteran, Dies at Age of 48 Roger Dale Youde, 48, who had spent his lifetime in the Sutherland community, died at his farm home south of town Saturday afternoon, following several months of illness. He was a graduate of the Sutherland high school, and served three years in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He has since engaged in farming. Survivors are his wife, Lorene, six sons, Robert, a student at the University of South Dakota at Vermillion, Jerry, Dennis, Jack, Michael and David at home; also his parents Mr. and Mrs. Guy Youde of Sutherland, a sister, Mrs. L.H. Jones of Sioux City and two brothers, Delmar and Lyle Youde, both of Grants Pass, Oregon. Funeral services were held at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon from the Methodist Church with the Rev. A.D. Holtry in charge, directed by the Baumgarten Funeral Home. The Rev. Warren A. Bintz of Rolfe, former pastor here, sang “This Is My Father’s World” and “How Great Thou Art”. Mrs. Loren Drefke was organist. Pallbearers were William Caldwell, James Powell, Robert Green, Raymond Dau, Robert Reiste of Ocheydan and Hubert Campney of Ruthven. Burial was in Waterman Cemetery, where military services were conducted by the Sutherland American Legion post No. 152, with Oscar Adams, commander, in charge. Wayne Farquhar and Irvin Struve served as color bearers, John Engelke and Don Waggoner were color guards, and Delbert Johannsen directed the firing squad. He passed away at Sioux City, Iowa after a brief stay in the hospital there on January 1, 1973 at the age of 88. He was educated in schools near his childhood home and then graduated from Sutherland High School. On January 8, 1907 at Sutherland, he was united in marriage to Zelma Edith Cobb. To this union were born four children. As a life time resident of Waterman Township, Guy was engaged in farming all his active life until retiring to town in 1950. He was active in many organizations such as the Knight of Pythias, charter member of Farm Bureau, Ruritan (he was a National Honorary member) and the Sutherland Senior Citizens. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Sutherland. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother Harold and one son, Roger. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Zelma, two sons, Delmar and Lyle, both of Grants Pass, Oregon, one daughter, Mrs. L.H. (Gail) Jones of Sioux City and one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Renee Youde of Sutherland, fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends. MEMORIAL SERVICES - Guy C. Youde - January 1973 - Sutherland Courier Guy Charles Youde, 88, life-long resident of Waterman Township passed away Jan. 1, 1973, following a brief illness. Memorial services were held Wednesday, Jan. 3, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Sutherland, Iowa. Rev. William Rieckhoff was the officiating clergyman. Jake Moermond, soloist, sang “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”. Mrs. Phil Jordan was the organist. | The Hawk Eye Tuesday, August 9, 2005 Barbara L. Youde, 86, of Fort Madison, died at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, at her home. Born Feb. 28, 1919, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of William and Charlotte Veitinger Leach. On March 17, 1943, she married Leland F. Youde in Fort Madison. He died April 21, 1979. Mrs. Youde was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Martha Circle, Chapter AY of TTT, Chapter BS of PEO, Fort Madison Women's Club and Elsie Paul Circle of King's Daughters. Survivors include one sister, Paula Hansen of Mount Pleasant; and three nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to the time of service Friday, Aug. 19, at St. John United Church of Christ. The memorial service for Mrs. Youde will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at St. John United Church of Christ, with Pastor Cheryl Simpson officiating. A time of fellowship and food will follow the memorial service in the church hall. Burial will be in City Cemetery in Fort Madison.
