Mr. Patrick J. Votano, 68, of Lynn, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Kindred Hospital in Peabody after a lengthy illness. He was born in Lynn, and was the son of the late Pasquale and Irene (Coocen) Votano. He was raised in the Brickyard section of Lynn and attended Lynn schools. He lived in Lynn all of his life.
Patrick was a heavy equipment operator with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Public Works for several years. He was also a shoe maker. He was the former owner of BoVo Shoe. Patrick made boat shoes and was proudly known as one of the finest handlasters in the city before the great fire in Lynn which destroyed the shoe industry. He was also a member of the Italian American Club in Lynn.
Patrick is survived by his five children, Paul and his wife Lynne, William and his wife Linda, all of Lynn, Lee Balben and her husband Harold of Florida, Shannon Gastonguay and her husband John, of Springvale Maine,and Annita Dennis of Swampscott, his three sisters, Irene Waldron and Josephine Guthro of Naples, FL and Virginia Votano of Lynn, four brothers, Paul, William, Richard and Delfino all of Lynn. He also leaves six step children, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
His memorial service will be held on Friday, January 16, 2009 at 12:00 PM in the Solimine, Landergan and Richardson Funeral Home, 67 Ocean Street (Rte 1A) Lynn. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Memorial visitation Friday morning from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Seasons Hospice House, Riverside center, Suite 3-100. 275 Grove Street Newton, MA 02466.
