These are my memories: Mr. Prince and his wife, Mrs. Mandy Sledge lived in a shotgun style house in the edge of a cotton patch. They were share croppers. The physical location is just 1/2 mile east of HWY 137 (after being four laned several years ago, may be shown on maps as US Highway 425) on Parish Farm Road, just across a small bayou, at the point where Ware Road ends. Parish Farm Road is still and always has been a gravel road, with the exception of the last 3/4 of a mile further east, where it dead ends at the Johnny Walker Road, That 3/4 of a mile was blacktopped a few years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Sledge's address would have been a box number on Route 1, Rayville, LA 71269 and is in Richland Parish, LA. The old house remained for years after both died but eventually due to disrepair and age, was torn down and debris removed. I visited there again in June 2014 and you can still see where the old house sat, the electric pole is still in place and for many years the old butane tank remained, but is gone now. Mrs. Mandy also did house work for a few ladies in the rural area and there are few children in that community my age (67) that Mrs. Mandy did not take care of, love, and whom all loved her. She worked for my grandmother, Mrs. W. T. Swayze (Vesta), who lived just a bit further east on Parish Farm Road. Mr. Prince was always busy from daylight to dark, seven days a week, working in the fields. In the hot summer evenings, you would find him sitting or laying on the front porch trying to cool off and to get a bit of rest, but he always waved when we drove slowly past. We drove slow to keep down the amount of dust kicked up from the old road. From time to time, Mr. Prince did enjoy a bit of alcohol. :) I grew up living at my Grandmother's, married, and live out of state but I often go back to visit immediate family. Every time I drive by Mrs. Mandy's old home place, I think of her and Mr. Prince.
