She passed on when I was only 11 years old, I really would have liked to get to know her better, She left behind a great legacy and healthy kids/grandchildren/great grandchildren. DORIS
ELIZABETH SCRIBNER COLCHESTER / NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — Doris E.
(Beatty/Joyce) Scribner, known as “”Doty” to her many friends and relatives,
entered into rest Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, in Fletcher Allen Health Care, ICU
Unit, after a 42 day illness. Born July 30, 1934, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., she
was the daughter of Harold and Hazel (Banker) Beatty, who predeceased her. She
graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1952. She then attended Vassar
Brothers School of Nursing and graduated in 1955. She was employed as a
dedicated and compassionate nurse for 45 years at Vassar Brothers Hospital,
Poughkeepsie, and Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, retiring in 1996. In
1996, she and her loving husband of 27 years, Edward, became “”snowbirds”
commuting between Vermont and Florida with their devoted companion “”Dakota
Marie.” She loved spending time with her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, camping, flower gardening, singing, traveling, and
painting. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Kevin Joyce
(girlfriend Sue Morgan) of Essex Junction; daughters, Debra Joyce (boyfriend
Jamie Mears) of Underhill, Lorraine Joyce and Mike Gonzalez of Essex Junction,
Kathleen Cote (Bombard) and her husband, Jerry, of St. George, and Sharon
Desso and her husband, Robert, of Fletcher; 22 grandchildren; seven
eat-grandchildren; stepchildren Veronica Johnson of Fort Meyers, Fla., Edward
Scribner and his wife, Denise, of Richmond, Va., Kevin Scribner and his wife,
Karen, of Brunswick, Maine, Mark Scribner and his wife, Laurie, of Essex
Junction, and Karen Grove of Jacksonville, Fla. She was predeceased by a
stepdaughter, Connie Scribner. We have been truly blessed to have had such a
beautiful person to teach us the true meaning of life, compassion, joy and
unconditional love. Mom, wife, friend will live in our hearts forever.
Visiting hours will be Saturday, Aug. 18, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the
Corbin & Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St., Essex Junction, with a memorial
service at 7:30. Interment services will be held in Poughkeepsie Rural
Cemetery, Saturday, Aug. 25, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations
may be made to Friends of Nurses Health Study, Harvard Medical School, Dr.
Speizer, Channing Laboratory, 181 Longwood Ave., Boston, Mass. 02115.
