Armando Ponce, 43, of Del Rio was the victim of a stabbing which occurred Tuesday night at a bar in that city. Ponce was born and reared in Sanderson.
According to a story in the Del Rio News-Herald, Pounce and a friend, Manuel Morales Jr., got involved in an argument with two men from Brackettville inside the bar and the foursome went outside where the argument grew into a cutting scrape. Ponce was pronounced dead at the scene and Morales was taken to the Val Verde Memorial Hospital for treatment and subsequently underwent surgery.
Later the other two, brothers from Brackettville, showed up at the hospital for treatment that one received in the altercation. He was placed under arrest and the pair was charged with murder, aggravated assault, and aggravated robbery.
Funeral services for Ponce were Friday at St. James Catholic Church. The funeral Mass was by Fr. Gilberto Rodriguez. Burial was in Santa Rita Cemetery under the direction of the Humphreys-Doran Funeral Home of Del Rio.
Survivors include his wife, Frances H. Ponce, sons, Michael Scott, Armando Jr., Jacob, all of Del Rio and Israel Aguilar of San Antonio; daughters, Michelle Lee, Maria Denise, and Jo Ann of Del Rio; his mother, Mrs. Enemencia Ponce of Sanderson; brothers Juan Jose Arredondo of Monahans, Frank Arredondo, Joe Ponce, and Martin Arredondo of Sanderson, and Rudy Ponce of Alpine.
