Murdoch, 76, of Route 1 Hamden, died August 19, 1989 at Edgewood Manor Nursing home in Wellston following an extended illness. Born December 2, 1912 in Dundas, he was the son of the late George Patrick and Lenora B. Trainer Murdoch. He was a welder and a farmer for over thirty years. He is survived by two sisters Doris Jean Murdoch of Dundas and Margaret Heaney of Wellston, and three brothers George of Dundas, Bayard of Wellston and Paul of McArthur. Besides his parents, he was preceeded in death by a sister Francis. Born February 14, 1896 in South Webster, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Etta Carmichael Martin. She was the oldest, living resident of Vinton county and she devoted her life to her children and her home. She was a member of the Hamden United Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter Carol Dixon of Hamden; three grandsons. Dr. Evan W. (Kathleen) Dixon of West Liberty, Brent L. Dixon of Hamden and David W. Murdoch of Elkins, West Virginia. 14, great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and several neices and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leverett M. Murdoch on February 18, 1964, a son Rexford ( Nadine) Murdoch, a son in law Lloyd Willis Dixon, a grandson Duane Murdoch, and seven brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be Monday at 1 pm at Hamden United Methodist Church with the Rev Robert Burchett officiating. Burial will be in the Hamden cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before Monday's service. Born July 2, 1910 in Elk Township, Vinton County, he was the son of the late George Patrick and Lenora Trainer Murdoch. Mr. Murdoch was a truck driver, 1929 graduate of McArthur High School and a former President of Service of Commission. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Vinton County VFW POST 5299, McArthur FOE AERIE #2279 and Wellston American Legion Post 371. He is survived by brothers Bayard ( Lelah) Murdoch of Wellston, Paul ( Shirley) Murdoch of McArthur, a sister Marjorie Heaney of Wellston; step children Amy ( Donald) Puckett, Alice ( Larry) Graves, and William ( Margaret) Stewart all of Londonderry and Terry Stewart of Hamen; 12 step grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; and several neices and nephews. He was born March 9, 1928 at Dundas, son of the late George Patrick and Lenora Trainer Murdoch. He was a 1945 graduate of McArthur High School and was employed by McNally Pittsburgh of Wellston and later retired from Austin Powder Co. in 1993 after 35 years of employment. Paul was very active in his community serving as a Democratic Committeeman for 30 years also serving as chairman, a member of the McArthur Park Board, member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church of Wellston and always supported his sons in all their activities. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Shirley Ann Dalton Murdoch of McArthur. To this union were born to sons, Larry David Murdoch and Randy Paul Murdoch both of McArthur, four granddaughters, Hillary (Eric) Lafferty of McArthur, Erica Murdoch of San Jose, California, Jaclyn Murdoch of Athens and Jaye Murdoch of McArthur and a great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Renee Lafferty also of McArthur. Also surviving are a brother, Bayard (Lelah) Murdoch of Wellston, a sister, Margery Heaney of Wellston and a special friend, Brenda Murdoch of McArthur. In addition to his parents Paul was preceded in death by brothers, George and Vernon, sisters, Frances and Doris and a granddaughter, Miranda. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday June 23, in the Garrett Funeral Home with Father Donald Maroon officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Cemetery. Murdoch, 90, of Wellston, Ohio, died Monday morning, August 4, 2008, at Jenkins Memorial Health Facility in Wellston. He was born in Dundas, Ohio, November 6, 1917, son of the late George P. and Lenora Trainer Murdoch. He was a 1935 graduate of McArthur High School. He was an Army veteran of WWII with the ranking of Staff Sergeant with the 1596th AAF Base Unit. He retired after 27 years as a machinist foreman with the Goodyear Atomic Energy Corporation. He was also a well-known watch and clock repairman in the area. He was a long-time member of American Legion Post # 371 of Wellston, attended the Trinity United Methodist Church, and was an avid camper. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Vernon, and Paul, and two sisters, Frances and Doris Murdoch. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Lelah Gettles Murdoch; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Alyce Murdoch of Wellston; one daughter and her companion, Peggy Murdoch and Jim Pope of Wellston; two grandsons, Matt (Erica) Murdoch of Blacklick, Ohio and Bryan Murdoch of Cincinnati, Ohio; one sister, Margery Heaney of Wellston; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Murdoch of McArthur, Ohio and Ernestine Gettles of Wellston; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Thursday, Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. at the Jenkins Funeral Chapel in Wellston with Pastor Paula Christian officiating. Burial followed in the Ridgewood Cemetery in Wellston with military graveside services by American Legion Post #371 of Wellston.
