Joseph Mesaris is my grandfather, from his first marriage to Anna Kane in Cornwall, NY. My uncle, also Joseph Mesaris, was born March 27, 1932, and my mother, Shayne Irene Mesaris, was born June 8, 1933. Joseph and Anna divorced early in 1933. Both later remarried. My mother and uncle had little contact (if any) with Joseph as they grew up and had minimal contact with their half-brother.
His parents, Andrew Mesaris and Caroline Hoffman, lived in Exeter PA and had several children, including Florence, Irene, Joseph and others. My mother remembers visiting her aunt Florence and her grandparents in PA when she was a very small child.
Andrew immigrated from Budapest, Hungary in 1895 and was married to Caroline by the time of the 1900 Census. His name is listed on the ship manifest for the
steamship 'Stuttgart' as Andrus Mezzaros.
