My maiden name is Beverley Ruth Kendrick. I am so saddened following my recent search for my first love; Martin McCourt. Saddened by a death date listed for a 38 year man that I had hoped to reconnect with in my lifetime.
Martin & I met in high school (we dated seriously from January 1976 to January 1977). On our last night together (the night before he moved to Florida), he told me he loved me and I told him as well. The only reason our high school romance ended was because he and his family were moving to Sarasota. I never, ever got over him. In fact, every year for as long as I can remember, I would say "Happy Birthday Martin" outloud on October 7th. He never escaped my mind, happy memories or my heart. It is so true what they say about first loves. You NEVER forget!! I was in St. Petersburg, Florida for 4 weeks in the summer of 1993 but could not get up the nerve or courage to look him up, pick up the phone and just call him to say hello. I always envisioned telling him that I never forgot him (songs during that time that we dated always have and still do bring him to mind). We attended Sir Oliver Mowat in West Hill, Ontario (he lived on Paulander). In fact, a few years ago I went back to tour the area and actually pulled into his old driveway - my heart sank. It just so happens that 1999 was probably one of my worst years - I suffered a depression that began in June 1999 - I truly felt a sense of loss in my life but that made no sense at the time - now I know that although I just wasn't aware of it yet- it was Martins' passing caused me pain (and still does). I wished that we could have reunited at some point in our lives. Looking back, I so wish that I had picked up the phone and had the chance to have seen him one more time before he died. I feel the need to find his sister; Colleen - to talk about Martin and his life. If this death is in fact, my high school sweetheart (which I believe it is given dates, age, etc) then I am forever saddened to have lost him forever; with no chance to ever see his beautiful, smiling face again. I am filled with remorse and regret - he will always be part of my lifes' memories (the best ones). We both loved the group Chicago - we went to their concert together at the Toronto National Exhibition in the summer of 1976 - "Wishing you were Here" and many other beautiful Chicago songs will always be ours. I still love you Martin McCourt. I wish we had been even a little older when you moved away so that I could have moved too. If I had only had the confidence then that I have today to tell you that you never left my heart, my thoughts, my soul. I will see you again one day.
