Obituary for Dorothy Lucinda Bridge Giles McCollester. Dorothy Lucinda Bridge Giles McCollester died July 6, 2007 at Atchison Senior Village, Atchison, Kansas. She was born May 10, 1911 in West Township, Montgomery County, near Red Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Bradley Reasoner Bridge and Rachel Ann (Cooper) Bridge.
During her lifetime Dorothy was a teacher, homemaker, and baker for the local school district. She was a gifted musician that played both violin and piano. Dorothy was an avid reader and loved making crafts with her hands. In addition, she was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and just this year became a great great-grandmother.
On May 23, 1932 she married Wayne Michael Giles. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1935. On July 26, 1937 she married Basil Franklin McCollester who also preceded her in death on September 5, 1987. Also preceding her in death were her parents, one sister Jessie Golden Bridge Coy, and one granddaughter Merry McCall.
She is survived by three children, Phyllis M. (Jerry) Laflin, Bendena, KS, Larry F. (Michelle) McCollester, Warrensburg, MO, and Janet K. (Jerry) Bland, also of Warrensburg, MO. In addition, she will be remembered by eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews, and dear family friends.
Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Michael R. Laflin, Robinson, IL, and Rev. Eduardo Bousson, Atchison, KS officiating. Vocal recordings of “How Great Thou Art”, “Love Lifted Me” and “I’ll Fly Away” were played. Interment was in the Glensted Cemetery near Versailles, with Perry McCollester, Rea Laflin, Brad Kellock, Alan Papen, Nathan Graham and Reed McCollester serving as casketbearers. Memorial contributions are suggested to Glensted United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society or Atchison Senior Village in Atchison, KS.
