Lorin Dee Wiggins, age 67, died peacefully in his sleep on February 29, 1996 of complications related to lung failure and cancer. He and his wife were serving in the Arizona Tempe Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was born in Cedar City, Utah on February 17, 1929 to Eugene Howard Wiggins and Delores Hokanson (both deceased). Ogden, Utah eventually became the home of his youth. He served in the Spanish American Mission from 1948 to 1951. During this 3 year period, his fiance' Lou Jean Saunders waited for him. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on February 28, 1951. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary the day before his death.He was drafted into the Army in 1951 and was trained in the Counter Intelligence Corps in Baltimore, Maryland. At the conclusion of his training, they were transferred to Panama where they spent one year. After his release from the military he moved his family to Salt Lake City, where he completed a BS and an MBA from the University of Utah. He worked for Evans Advertising for 39 years as a photographer and as a production manager. In 1992 he founded his own advertising related business, Wiggins Production Management.
He was active in the LDS Church serving as a bishop, high counselor, executive secretary among many other positions. He also felt the need to be of service to his community. He served as president of the Salt Lake Exchange Club and received their prestigious Grant MacFarlane Hall of Fame Award for outstanding service. He was president of the Rocky Mountain Exchange District, was a national board member, and recently was a member of the National Exchange Volunteer Training Squad. For several years he was a board member of the Utah Governor's Conference on Families and was a board member for the Utah Chapter for the Prevention of Child Abuse.
Lorin was completely devoted to his family. He loved his children and grandchildren, and cherished his wife and parents. His desire was to serve their needs at every opportunity. He also enjoyed a unique loving relationship with all of his brothers and all of his wife's brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife and five children: Linda Lee Ripplinger (Randy), Kent Edward Wiggins (Cherie), Janice Hansen (Ross), Ted Eugene Wiggins, Ilene Garner (Todd), as well as a foster-son, Alvin Lewis (Rosaline), 21 grandchildren, two brothers: David Wiggins (Carol), Marvin Wiggins (Nanette). Preceded in death by his brother, Keith Wiggins (MauRene).
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 6th, 11:00 a.m. at the Mount Olympus 5th Ward, 3510 So. 3610 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends and family may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E South Temple, on Tuesday from 6-8:00 p.m., and at the ward one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.
