Reino Laitinen
NEGAUNEE ? Reino W. Laitinen, age 83, of Box 280, County Road 480, Negaunee Township, died at 7:00pm on Friday, February 18, 2005 at the Emergency Room at Bell Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Reino was born on September 3, 1921 in Negaunee Township to Albin and Hilma (Friidman) Laitinen and was a graduate of Negaunee High School, Class of 1938. He worked as an underground miner for CCI for 33 years, retiring from the Mather B Mine in 1978. He owned and operated Laitinen's Dairy Farm on Co. Rd. 480 for many years.
Mr. Laitinen was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Harvey. He was an avid horesman and especially liked work horses. He realized a life long dream in 1999 when he obtained a pair of Haflinger geldings, Randy and Tom. He enjoyed taking long rides and spending time with his little dog, "Mikko."
Surviving are 3 daughters, Sandra Laitinen of Negaunee Township, Diane (Robert) Burling of Harvey and Sara Wilt of Ishpeming; 2 sons, Reino (Rita) Laitinen of Negaunee Township and Dana (Sandy) Laitinen of Gordonville, TX; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Mildred (James) Wiggert of Blacksburg, VA; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellen (Luokkala) on July 25, 1999; a stillborn daughter; a sister, Helen Seppala; 3 brothers, Oliver, his twin Heimo and Paul Laitinen.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00pm on Tuesday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Harvey. Rev. Chrysande J. Levesque will officiate. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet friends and relatives from 5- 6pm prior to the service.
The Koskey Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Funeral Services for Eagle Mills Man to Be Held on Saturday.
Negaunee June6-Albin Laitinen, 46 years old, died at 8 o'clock last night in Morgan Heights sanatorium after a lingering illness. Mr. Laitinen was born May 5, 1888, in Finland, and has been residing on a farm at EagleMills.
He leaves his wife, Hilma (Fredman) and four sons and two daughters, Oliver, Heimo, Raino, Paul, Helen and Mildren, all at home; his father, Herman Laitinen, of Negaunee; a brother, Otto of this city; and fiver sister Mrs Paul Renmer and Mrs. Tekla Ross, of Negaunee; Elvi and Helmi, of Chicago, and Mrs. Vekko Puro of Russia.
The funeral will be held in the home at Eagle Mills at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. The Rev. A. Kononen, of Gwinn, will officate and burial will be in the Negaunee cemetery. - submitted by

Richard P. Laitinen
NEGAUNEE ? Richard P. 'Dick' Laitinen, age 68, of 409 Buffalo Road, Negaunee, died at 5:26 PM on Thursday, May 18, 2006 at the Bell Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for 2 days.
Richard was born Nov. 18,1937 in Negaunee to Reino & Milma V. Laitinen, was a graduate of Negaunee High School, Class of 1955 and was a life long resident. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served with the Airborne Division and was stationed in Germany. Following his service to his country he worked as a corrections officer at the Marquette Branch Prison for over 28 years, retiring as a Lieutenant in 1994.
Mr. Laitinen was an active member of the Negaunee Elks Lodge, was a member of the Negaunee Rod & Gun Club and the Negaunee Eagles Club. He was an avid cribbage player and was a member of the Negaunee Social Cribbage League and the Ishpeming Men's Cribbage League. His hobbies included gardening, walking, riding his bike, and traveling to "special U.P. destinations."
Surviving are his wife Sandra, his brother, Duane 'Bob' (Barbara) Laitinen of Marquette, eight step-children, numerous grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, one niece, one nephew, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his 1st wife, Mary.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced by the Koskey Funeral Home.
