Buchman, Herbert J. 93, died at 5:21 am on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at Saint Clair Hospital
in Fenton, Missouri. Born July 3, 1916, in Saint Louis, Missouri, he was the son of the late
Herbert Buchman and Olivia Dumbeck Buchman who were both originally from Highland, Illinois,
and the brother of the late Marion Haas of Huntleigh Woods, Missouri. Mr. Buchman was married
on March 13, 1937 to Roberta Faye “Bobbie” Skelton and she preceded him in death on
November 20, 1998. Mr. Buchman was formerly president of the Doering Mortgage Corporation.
He joined the company in 1947 after returning from military service as a sergeant in the
U. S. Army Southwest Pacific Theater during World War II and retired as a financial consultant
in 1984. Ten years prior to his military service he was associated with the Florsheim Shoe Company
in Chicago, Illinois, where he was a store manager, and later became general manager of the
Iowa Corporation in De! s Moines, Iowa, until he entered military service. During the mid-sixties
he served as director of various boards of the Mortgage Bankers Association and as Treasurer of
the Saint Louis Board of Realtors. He also served as a director on the board of the
Shriners Hospital for seven years. In 1985 he was elected to the board of directors and named
treasurer of the Carrie Ellegson Gietner Foundation. He was a fifty-year member of the
High Twelve Masonic Lodge in Manila, Philippine Islands, as well as the Magnolia-Euclid Masonic
Lodge and a life member of Moolah Temple Shrine, the Arab Patrol, and the Royal Order of Jesters
and was also a Potentate's Aide Emeritus. He was a member of the Missouri Athletic Club.
Surviving are his two sons, Donald L. Buchman of West Lafayette, Indiana, and Jeffry J. Buchman
of Stanton, California, his five grandchildren, Susan Buchman McCracken of Poway, California;
Shauna Buchman Schenke of West Lafayette, Indiana; Jeffry S. Buchman of Santa Cruz, California;
Kristin Buchman Isenberg, and Karin Buchman Lowe both of New Orleans, Louisiana; and ten
great grandchildren. Also surviving are his dear and faithful friend and companion of the
last ten years, Mary Walters of Pacific, Missouri, and Mary's son, Frank “Pancho” Windler of
Pacific, Missouri, a fellow Shriner and current Potentate of Moolah Temple, who was like a son
to Mr. Buchman. Services: Cremation and private interment will be at Valhalla Mausoleum in
Saint Louis, Missouri. Contributions in Mr. Buchman's memory may be made to Moolah Shrine Center,
Shriners' Hospital for Children, or Scottish Rite Clinic.
