LEON J. KEAGLE, Well Known Businessman, Dies, 79, 18 East Carson St., Canton, died , Tuesday morning, Dec. 18, 1973 at the Arnot-Ogden Memorial Hospital, Elmira. He was born in Arnot March 28, 1894, the son of Grant and Ida Mase Keagle. He was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church, Canton, the Canton Masonic Lodge No. 415 F. and A.M., the Williamsport Consistory and the Irem temple. He is a past member of the Canton Rotary Club. Mr. Keagle was a graduate of Mansfield Normal School where he majored in music. He organized a local quartet known as the “Jungletown Quartet” which was popular in this area during the 1930s. They were featured on WENY radio several times. He owned and operated a music store in Canton for over 55 years. Mr. Keagle is survived by three daughters, Mrs. R. Lloyd (Phyllis) Jones, Mrs. Howard (Katherine) Jones and Mrs. Olen (Lenore) Smith, all of Canton; two sons, Roger M. Keagle, Owego and Col. James G. Keagle, DDS, Port Lewis, Wash.; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Holmes, Canton; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and also several cousins. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 at the Morse Funeral Home, 12 E. Main St., Canton with the Rev. Thomas Logston officiating. Interment will be in the Main Street Cemetery, Canton. –Canton Independent Sentineal

Leah Mae Roupp Backman Keagle, 77, of 150 North Williamson Road, Blossburg died peacefully at her home August 18, 1989 following a short-term illness. Born September 4, 1911, in Towanda, the oldest of 12 children, she was the daughter of Ross and Lela Chapman Roupp. In 1927, at the age of 16, she began employment with the Blossburg State Hospital and retired as purchasing agent at its closing in 1972. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Blossburg. Very active on many levels, she was
a member of the former Ammoma Class, president of the board of trustees and church treasurer until her illness. A member of the Blossburg American Baptist Women, she
was honored as their "Woman in Ministries." Mrs. Keagle was a member of Sebring Grange #1047, an executive board member of North Penn Comprehensive Health
Care Corp. and was honored by the . corporation for her time and dedication to it, president of North Penn Auxiliary and a dedicated fundraiser, named Blossburg BPW
"Woman of the Year" in 1978 and a former Girl Scout leader. Of her many interests, she was a diligent gardner, known for her beautiful flowers and she enjoyed watching and feeding birds. Her home was always open to her family and friends. Preceding her in death were her husbands, John E. Backman in October 1946 and Russell J. Keagle on May 6, 1989, and one brother, Ernest C. Roupp in November 1985. Surviving are a son and daughter in-law, John E. and Rae Backman of Blossburg; two daughters and sons in-
law, Jane and Milton Allen of Endicott, N.Y. and Dorothy A. and Ernest Norman of Liberty; 10 brothers and sisters, Margaret English of Muncy, Evelyn Kreger, Joyce Lloyd and Francis Roupp of Blossburg, Clifford Roupp of Nauvoo, John, Richard and Ross Roupp of Arnot, Clarence Roupp of Williamsport and Rober Roupp of Liberty; 12 grand children; and 14 great-grandchildren. Services were held Monday, August 21,1989 at the First Baptist Church, Blossburg. The Rev. John Shypulefski, her pastor, officiated. Burial was made in Arbon Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the First Baptist Church, Blossburg,Arrangements were handled by Adams-Morse and Kleese Funeral Home, Blossburg.
