Geneva Faye Shelton, 64, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Friday, May 4, 2007 in a Knoxville hospital. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her mother, Eliza Faye “Scrappy” Grissom, three brothers, Gordon McCormack, Ernest Grissom and Johnny Ray Grissom and also one sister, Wanda Mae Haggard.
Survivors include her husband, Ed Shelton of Cleveland; children and spouses: Tina and Richard Gilliland of Benton, Nonnie and Donna Cofer of Georgetown, Thomas “Hawkeye” Shelton of Cleveland, Addie Shelton of Cleveland, Eddie Dean Shelton of Cleveland and Johnny and Linda Shelton of Georgetown; three brothers and spouses: William “Corney” and Melba McCormack of Cleveland, Lloyd “Peanut” and Edith Grissom and Jimmy D. Grissom all of Cleveland; two sisters: Glenda Sue Whaley of Cleveland and Barbara D. Couey and husband, David Couey of Decatur; 22 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Reverend Ray Cheathem officiating. Interment will follow in Candies Creek Cemetery with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. Jeff Pierce, Aaron McCann, Jason McCann, Tim Smith, Michael Payne and Slick McCormack will serve as pallbearers.

| She Attended Galilee Baptist Church, Hampton Drive Baptist Church, and Four Point Baptist Church all under the leadership of her wonderful pastor, Raye Cheatham. She was a woman filled with love and joy that comes from our father Jesus Christ. She Would help anyone in need. Growing up we had multiple people that she took in and took care of because they didnt have any family and she didnt want them to be alone or homeless. She had compassion for all unchristian people because she wanted to show the love of Jesus to all. My Nanny loved people into salvation. She had four wonderful children which she adored and would do anything for them. Her prayer was to see all her children saved. I continully pray for the same. There were many nights as a child I remember her crying in her bedroom on at the alter in her living room pleading with God that her kids would get saved. I also remember those cottage prayer meetings that she would have in her home. The house would be packed and the Holy Ghost would fill that old home place with shouting, sing, and prayers for the gifts of the spirit. I remeber the Holy Ghost showing up in that house and fall on the Godly men and women. I recall how the womens hair would fall when they would begin to shake in the Holy Ghost bobby pins would go flying and the saints would go to running. I will never forget all the wonderfull memories that we shared and I will never quit missing her. Every single day I remember things that she taught me, phrases that she would say, and those looks when she would point that fingur at us. I love her and miss her! I am so glad to know that one day I will be reunited with her on that heavenly reunion and I know just where to find her. She always used to tell me that she would be at Jesus feet and when I get there that is where I am going so I can find her. I can see me getting there and sneeking up on her and saying "Nanny I am Here!" I know that she will be there waiting for me to arrive. She watches over me everyday. She is my gaurdian angel. When I am down and out about her being gone I remember these stories and the words to her favorite song. We're not home yet children so keep your eyes on the Saviour just a few more days to labor and we'll sit down beside the river how we have long to be with Jesus and our loved ones gone before us there's a better day coming we're not home yet.
