This is my grandfather. The following is my mother and father's obituary; Robert Eugene Figer was born March 28, 1925 in a dugout north of Berlin, Oklahoma to Ruby Jane (Barfield) and Arthur Marvin Figer. Betty Jane (Crow) Figer was born May 19, 1926 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to Samuel B. and Luna (Fugate) Crow. They both passed away in their home surrounded by their family; Betty on August 2, 2010 at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 13 days and Gene, two days later, on August 4th at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 6 days.
Betty attended twelve years of school at Pawhuska graduating with the class of 1944. Upon graduation Betty was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for fifteen years where she became a switchboard receptionist. On March 17, 1945 she married Clyde J. Rhea in Visalia, California. To this union was born one daughter Anna Lu Rhea. The marriage dissolved in 1946. In 1949 she married Howard J. Beeman in Pryor, Oklahoma who preceded her in death in 1951. During this time Gene left Bartlesville College High as a junior and joined the United States Marine Corps where he served his country during World War II until his discharge in 1946. After a brief stay with Coleman Lamp and Stove, he began a career in the aircraft manufacturing industry as a tool and die machinist. He was recalled to the Marine Corps in 1950 and again served his country during the Korean War. After his discharge he returned to the aircraft industry until his retirement in 1988. In 1959, Gene and Betty, Pawhuska childhood sweethearts, renewed each others acquaintance and they were united in marriage June 15, 1959 in Yale, Oklahoma. Of this union, one daughter Rebecca Elaine completed the family circle. In 1962 they made their home in Warr Acres, Oklahoma where they continued to live and share 51 plus years of marriage.
Gene and Betty were members of Tulakes Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School to all ages over a twenty year period until her health forced her to retire and Gene drove the Sunday School Bus for a number of years.
They were preceded in death by their parents, Betty's two brothers, Lee L. and John C. Crow, her three sisters, Lois June and twins Mary and Martha Crow as well as Gene's brother, Raymond.
They are survived by their daughters, Anna Lu Evans and husband, Frank, Oklahoma City, OK; Rebecca Elaine Williams, Erick, OK; four grandsons, Michael Patrick and Matthew Paul Evans, Oklahoma City, OK; Robert Lee Williams, Erick, OK; Patrick Cole Williams, Oklahoma City, OK; granddaughter, Maria Nicolle Evans, Oklahoma City, OK; one great grandson, Samuel McCord, one great granddaughter, Maria Gabrielle, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be Wednesday and Thursday at Buchannan Funeral Service 8712 N. Council Road. In lieu of flower donations may be made to the Tulakes Baptist Church Building Fund.
