Services held for Elmer K. Olson July 20
Elmer K. Olson, age 89 years 7 months, of Baldwin, WI, died Thursday July 18, 1985, at the Baldwin Care Center, Baldwin, WI.
He was born on December 18, 1895, on his mother's birthday at Viking, WI. His parents were Gilbert and Thea Krogh Olson.
Elmer was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith as a member of the Norwegian Methodist Church near Viking. Later he transferred his membership to the United Presbyterian Church of Baldwin of which he was presently a member.
Elmer served in the army during WWI and was stationed in Kentucky. He was honorably discharged in 1918 and has been a member in good standing of the Cave-Dahl American Legion Post No. 240 for 64 years.
On August 10, 1932, he was united in marriage to Lucille Vida Hamilton, at Grange Hall, WI. This union was blessed with two children, Doris, (Mrs. Ronald Taylor) of Bloomington, MN; and Gordon, of Fredonia, WI. Gordon was born on his father's birthday.
Elmer and his brother, Albin, farmed their parent's homestead for many years. He also worked with brother Oscar, doing carpenter work and building bridges, worked at the Farmer's Elevator of Baldwin and Stronk's Hardware of Baldwin. For more than 15 years Elmer painted houses, barns and business places in the Baldwin area until his retirement at the age of 80 years.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Thea, in 1915 and his father Gilbert, in 1929; his brothers Oscar and Albin and sisters, Helma Johnson, Anna Wicklund, Thora Ofstie, and Tillie Rudesill and an infant baby sister.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille, daughter, Doris Taylor and husband Ronald of Bloomington, MN; and son, Gordon Olson and his wife, Linda of Fredonia, WI; five grandchildren, Michelle and Christine Taylor, Mark and Brad Olson, and Amber (Mrs. Daniel) Kreif, and on great-grandson, Daniel James Krief. Also 6 nieces and 7 nephews.
Elmer was a wonderful husband and a kind, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends but will be forever remembered in their hearts.
Visitation was held at the Dull funeral Home in Baldwin on Friday July 19, 1985. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 20th at the United Presbyterian Church of Baldwin at 10:30 a.m., Rev. Fred Roedger officiated. The organist was Ann Staal and vocalist was Gordon Palmer. Pallbearers were grandsons, Mark and Brad Olson and nephews, Harley and Wayne Rudesill, and Richard and Ronald Hamilton.
Burial was in the Baldwin Cemetery, Baldwin, WI. Full military honors were given by the American Legion Post No. 240 of Baldwin.
