David Bennett Brown, 55, born May 2, 1950, in Beaumont, Texas, died on Thursday, December 15, 2005 in Houston, Texas surrounded by his family and friends.
He is survived by his life partner, Dennis William Davis, of West Palm Beach, Florida, his twin brother, Frank Malloy Brown of Austin, Texas, his sister Molly Bennett Brown of Houston, Texas, and his brother Edgar William Brown IV of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father Edgar William Brown III, his mother Betty Bennett McCorquodale Brown, and his sister Gladys Slade Brown II.
David spent his early years between Orange and Houston, before attending boarding schools. He was an electrical engineering graduate of Rice University. He spent his life in developing advanced computer hardware and software systems including multiprocessing microcomputers, Mumps operating systems, various telecommunication systems, and economic prediction systems. MGlobal, the computer company owned by David and Dennis, had offices in 9 countries from Europe to the Far East. From New York City, to Singapore, to West Palm Beach, David’s work took him across the globe.
In addition to his many accomplishments, David will be fondly remembered for the opening of Pinehurst Gardens, at no charge to the public, for the enjoyment and education of all. The thousands of visitors who yearly visited the gardens in the 1990’s were struck by the beauty and serenity he had succeeded in creating. His passion for gardening had been shared by his loving mother who taught him at an early age. A well known daylily breeder and gardener herself, her legacy to David was evident from the Azalea/Tulip Festival in March to the Daylily Festival in May. With the help of long time friend and fellow gardener, Curtis Wilson, David was able to carry on the tradition of the family gardens.
David also supported numerous charitable projects in Orange and welcomed the use of Pinehurst Gardens for the public good. He always said the most memorable and enjoyable years of his life were those he spent in Orange in the 1990’s.
The family wishes to extend its gratitude for the prayers and kindness of all his friends. To celebrate his life, a private memorial will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 followed by an open house at 5:00 p.m. for all of David’s friends at the home of Ebb and Kim Moore which is located at 703 8th Street.
