I had two brothers, Eddie and Roy Dean. Our dad was Carl John. Eddie and Roy had a mother different from mine. I hardly knew Roy. I suspect if I hadn't had the rare overnight with his kids he'd never know that I existed.
My mother, Clara, abandoned me to my grandparents with whom I lived my entire life until I entered my junior year of high school when Clara needed my physical presence in order to secure her welfare and my dad's veteran's benefits.
As a child Eddie visited me whenever he was "allowed" by Clara. I still, to this day, am not fully aware why his visits were limited. All that I can recall of him was that he truly acted as a big brother to me.
He died before I could fully understand and reconcile our relationship. I do miss him and think of him. I often wonder how my life would have been different if I had been allowed my big brother in it. I do know, however, from the little exposure I had, I know that Eddie was a good person. He as kind, gentle and generous.
