| Willard Shade Chisham was my father in law. He was born in Montrose, Missouri on 29 Jan. 1920, and his actual date of death was the 20 October, 1978 in Wendell, ID. Willard was the son of William and Ina(Morris) Chisham. Willard had 15 brothers and sisters, and his mother, Ina, gave birth to five sets of fraternal twins. The first set of twins were born 28 June, 1911 in Missouri. Their names were Fewel and Jewel(m.Shropshire). The Chisham's moved to Idaho from Missouri around the year 1934, and they lived on the Salmon Track near Buhl, Idaho. Willard Chisham graduated high school and attended the College of Southern Idaho. He enlisted in the US Army during WWII and spent four years in theater in Europe. Willard was a Staff Sgt. in the Army and was in the forth wave to land on Omaha beach during the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France. Willard was in many of the noted battles in Europe during WWII and fought all the way through the battle of the bulge in Russia. Upon returning to the United States he learned that his younger brother Paul P. Chisham had been KIA in the Philippians in the Pacific. Willard left Idaho and went to San Francisco, CA to re-enlist against his mother's wishes. In a letter he wrote home from California he told his mother that he was going to go and kill the ones that killed Paul. Four days before Willard was to deploy from California into the battle in the Pacific, Japan was bombed by the US and Japan surrendered it's hold on the Pacific. Willard was honorably discharged from the Army for the second time, but did not return home to Idaho for several years. He went off alone into the mountains and herded sheep. His family said that he never spoke much about the war, but that he was highly decorated and was awarded the bronze and silver stars for valor. Upon returning to Idaho Willard went to work in the gravel pits and also farmed in the West Point area near Wendell, Idaho. His sister Pearl (Paul's twin sister) had married a man named Kenneth Lehmann. Kenneth had a younger sister named Sheila who was 13 years younger than Willard. Willard and Sheila eloped to Elko, Nevada and were married in 1950 when Sheila was only 19 years old. Sheila and Willard had six children together; Miles Zane, Vicky Deloris, Terri Anne, Bart Cordell, Mathew Corey, and Sheila (who died at birth.) Less than a year after baby Sheila's death, her mother died at the age of 43 from breast cancer. Willard was left to raise his children alone, at the time the youngest living, Mathew, was only 3 years old. The children stayed on the ranch with the oldest daughter, Vicky, caring for her younger siblings. However, five years after his wife died, in 1978, Willard also passed succumbing to pneumonia secondary to congestive heart failure and COPD. At the time of his death Willard still had 3 children under the age of 18 years of age. Terri Anne was 17 and was married to Bob Scarrow the day after her father passed away. Bart was 14 and ran away from home a year after his father died. Mathew was only 8 and lived on at the ranch cared for by his oldest brother, Zane, and his wife, Sheryl, until he was 14 years old, at which time he went to live with his sister Vicky in Jerome, ID. Willard Chisham has many grandchildren and great-grand children.
