Bessie Bonita Saunders was born October 5, 1908 in Prince
George, Maryland the fourth of seven children to the proud parents of John and Melissa Saunders.
Upon completing her education Bessie soon married James
H. Dickerson, of this union two children were born, Harvey M. and Russell W. Dickerson. They lived in Maryland for several years before relocating to California.
Bessie enjoyed many things along with being a devoted
wife and mother, she made her home the foundation of love,
understanding, prayer and comfort. Bessie and her family traveled,fished, and camped. She took pleasure in the beauty in different scenery and the adventure of discovery from each city or country side visited. Bessie's true passion was sewing, she would spend hours creating the perfect outfit for herself, her creativity went beyond sewing, she also crocheted and knitted from sweater
to pot holders. Bessie excelled at being a master seamstress.
James preceded his wife in death in April of 1978; her oldest son Rudoalph, son Harvey in May of 1995; her youngest son, Russell in August of 1998; two sisters, Anna Ricks and Alfa Saunders; and two grandchildren, Cindy and Kenneth Dickerson.
Bessie was called home on February 17, 2004 at the age of
95. She leaves to cherish her memory, sisters: Minnie Oxley (100),Rosa Allen (98), and Evelyn Saunders (84); brother: John Saunders(90); grandchildren: Harvey, Jr., Howard, Herman, Warren, Susie,Charlotte, Angie, Quinnie, Robert, Sandra and Amy; daughter-inlaw Winnie Dickerson; 20 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren; along with a host of other family and friends. - submitted by
