| Ralph Bancroft was a neighbor, close friend and artist. Never married. Professionally he was a male model for clothing and advertising such as Coca-Cola, cigarettes and furniture. He also designed and hand hooked rugs in his home. Many of his rugs were commissioned custom design. One of which was for the wife of an ambassador. He entered many Hooked Rug Shows and frequently was the recipiant of high awards. Made rugs for Eleanor Roosevelt and several Hollywood personalities. Often spoke of his mother & sister but I do not remember names. His home was a modest bungalow decorated in antiques & Pennsylvania Dutch designs. Never learned to drive, although we lived in a rural area, he walked every where and when he needed to get to the cities of Philadelphia or New York he walked to the bus station in town and made his connections from there. Lived in Browns Mills, NJ at least 1944-until his death. Had been a friend of my parents long before they married. I believe he grew up in Pennsylvania but do not have proof of this. I can tell you a little about his life, but have no genealogy information at this time. He is not a relative but a family friend & neighbor who had breakfast with us almost every Saturday and Dinner at least once a week. He loved being a magnificent Santa Clause in Macy's, Gimbles and Strawbridge & Clothier. He also designed and constructed several of my child hood Halloween costumes - every one was a contest winner and very elaborate in detail. Ragity Anne, Witch of Wizard of OZ and an African Cannibal with horns were the most memorable. A great influance in my life. I wish my children had had someone like him in their lives when they were growing up. Uncle Ralph was my go to person when I was in those "Terrible Teen years". - submitted by
