My name is Leslie Joyce Roberts. I was adopted as a baby. two weeks ago I located my maternal biological family. My birth mother was Nola Caroline Armitstead. My birth father was Art Armitstead. I have made connection with one of my half sisters. Nola's divorce from her first husband may never have been filed so there is a question about the legality of Art & Nola's marriage. No marriage certificate has been found. Art and Nola met in the 1950's in Northern California. I was born 4/18/1956 in Bakersfield, CA where my birth mother went to live with her oldest daughter during her pregnancy. My half sister has kept her mother's secret for 54 years.
Art was loved by Nola's grandchildren as the only grandfather they ever knew. He died in 1991. According to my nephew the family knew little about Art. I have not asked for his specific DOB. I have been promised more dates to follow. They believe Art never knew Nola had a child by him. As far as they know Art has no other children. They know nothing about his family. Apparently he broke off contact with his Mormon family when he moved from Utah to Northern California. I was given one picture that has both my birth parents. Because Art was such a special part of Nola's extended family I am sure they must have more pictures of him. Is it possible to find out if Arthur L. Armitstead ssn# 557-07-4548 is my biological father and if there are extended family members I can connect or genealogy that can be shared with me? I will try to ask maternal side if they have a SSN# for Art. What other specific identifying information should ask for from those family members? Thank you. - submitted by
